I am an author, researcher, and professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I specialize in the study of social inequality in family life, with a particular interest in the experiences of Latino fathers in the United States. My first book, Latino Fathers: What Shapes and Sustains Their Parenting, examines the factors impacting Latino men’s parenting and how they make sense of these forces.
I earned my Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2021). I also earned a MSc. in Sociology, with merit, from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2012), and a BS in Criminology, summa cum laude, with a minor in Speech Communication from the University of La Verne (2011). I am the first person in my family to earn a college degree.
I was born in Huntington Park and raised in San Bernardino, California. I like to travel and have visited Egypt, India, Mexico, and various countries in the European Union. I am an avid reader of mystery novels and a viewer of true crime television. I enjoy wine tasting, visiting museums, exercising, and professional wrestling.
